Beeswax Review

I'm stuck inside due to a snow day (visiting Richmond, VA this week). That means I can tell you about the beeswax experience.

While in Antigua for Christmas, my cousin offered to retwist my hair for me.  Who turns down a free retwist?  Not me.  I didn't actually plan on doing my hair, so I am brought was shampoo and coconut oil.  She brought over black gel and beeswax to work with.

She mixed the two which resulted in a brown color.  The final result was a pretty sticky mixture.  The actual retwist was good, but but I wasn't a fan of the look of the mix in my hair.  Take my work for it since I didn't take any pictures.

This retwist lasted just over three weeks.  When I finally washed my hair, it took about four lathers to feel clean.  That could be a combo of the amount of product and the fact that I hadn't made any shampoo in a while so the ratio in the bottle might have been a bit off.

Would I used beeswax again?  Probably not, mainly due to the sticky feeling which took about a week to subside.  Would I recommend it to some else?  Why not?  You need to try things out to figure out what works for you.  Especially if it's for the free.

Ok, Let's Talk

Sorry I've been a bit scattered lately.  As I mentioned in October, I've got a lot going on.  Since my last for real update, I turned in my resignation and moved to Puerto Rico. Crazy right? And why haven't I posted? I didn't get real internet until last Friday.  That's right.  Here are the details:

  • October to mid-December - Shutting down my life in Maryland.  Wrapping up work.  Packing my life for the last six years.  Putting the rest on Craigslist. Guess I should have posted some of the stuff on here.  Oh well.
  • December 12 - Last day at work
  • December 13 and 14 - Clean apartment and get everything out.  Thank God for my mother who came down a week earlier to help us get started.
  • December 15 - Fly to Antigua, the land of my birth.  The ticket for this was purchased way back in May, so there was no way I was not going.  That was nice and relaxing, but my only internet was my phone for most of that time, so I had to use the hotspot sparingly.
  • December 30 - Arrive in Puerto Rico.  And guess what?  The internet isn't working.  Apparently, it stopped working earlier in the month and they never came to fix it.  The company, Claro, holders of the worst customer service title, said someone would contact us that week.
  • January 3 - We go into the customer service center and are told that we should here from them on the 7th or 8th
  • January 8 - I'm in tears over the lack of internet and my growing seclusion.  I've been sitting at home by myself all this time for fear that they would come when I am not there.  Did I tell you that my husband is not working on the island anymore so I'm here alone?  No, of course not.  When would I have done that.  The husband makes an appointment with a different company for a Friday installation
  • January 10 - I have internet!

So actually, I'm actually getting better given the lag time in my posting.

Anyway that pesky "Plug in" message has reared its head.  I really should keep the plug nearby.

Next time, beeswax, I promise.

Do You Know What Today Is?

Well.... Do you?  It wasn't until a few minutes ago that I realized my locs are officially three years old.  Oh how time has flown.  Here is my latest set of bathroom/hallway pictures:

A picture in a picture.

Last retwist was two weeks ago

My ponytail is going to meet my shirt soon!

I know, I'm the worst.  I really need to start cropping before I upload.  That just leads to delays and I really wanted to post before the battery on the laptop dies.

Uh, oh.  The "plug in or find another power source warning" just popped up.

Well, I just wanted to check in.  I'll try to post sooner rather than later so you can know what happened with my beeswax retwist.

Bye

Hi There

Summer has come and gone, fall is starting to feel like winter, and I am finally about to post.  Sorry for the delay.  There have been many days that I wanted to post, but just couldn't fit it into the schedule.  Did I tell you guys that I'll be participating in the Washington, DC Avon Walk for Breast Cancer?  Fundraising for that has taken over my life.  Oh, and I'm moving.  More on that later, hopefully.

Anyway just play a bit of catch up on my hair situation:
1.  I did not try to get my scalp under control.
2.  I stuck to the no retwist until about September 5.  My husband wanted me to go to a wedding with him and I thought it would be nice not to look crazy.  Unfortunately, I was so busy admiring the hair on one of the members of the bridal party that I forgot to take a picture of my own.

Her stylist took loc petals to a whole new level.  Her hair is about waist length I think she said and it took about 4 hours.  Not sure if that was including the first style the stylist tried that she didn't like.

Here's what my hair looked like when I retwisted it myself last week:

It's been been about three years since I cut all my hair off.  That's so crazy.

September 2010 - the BIG chop

January 2011 - Finally decided to loc

Now, I'm really wishing I asked homegirl how long it took to get waist length.  Not sure I could manage that much hair anyway.

So, there's how things are going with my hair.  Hope all is well with you and yours.  Many thanks to NaturaLocs for letting me know that someone actually reads my blog.  Thanks for motivating me.

Psoriasis and Locs

Finally watched the video on removing psoriasis from locs.  Super informative.  Thanks to Quotidianlight for posting.

I hope this comes in handy.

Maybe this is what I'll try getting under control for the summer.  Some things I've already done.  Definitely done a lot of the picking. And yes I have seen a dermatologist.
